The opportunity…
We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Legal Counsel to support and enable our rapid growth across the Asia region. This is a critical role within our Legal function, where you will serve as a strategic partner to affiliates and leadership teams in Asia, helping ensure the business operates efficiently, ethically, and in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Legal
- Provide high-level and wide-ranging advice to DT business stakeholders regarding DT legal exposure in Asia, including customer contracts, service contracts, operating and property leases, licenses and tenders
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with customers, vendors, and other stakeholders in the Asia region;
- Work with various business units in the Asia region to ensure understanding of, compliance with, or acceptance of stated terms and conditions;
- Work with external counsel, internal stakeholders, and insurance providers to manage commercial disputes;
- Manage and maintain contract templates, including updates and revisions;
- Coordinate with Legal and Compliance Manager, Contracts Manager - Asia and other stakeholders in the Asia region to resolve contract-related disputes;
- Advise DT Asia Regulatory affairs team on legal issues relating to marketing regulations, product liability and customer complaints;
- Work with DT P&C team to provide legal advice and support regarding employment agreements, disputes and/or policies; and
- Stay up-to-date with local laws and regulations that impact contracts in the Asian region.
Compliance
- Develop and enhance compliance policies to ensure they are relevant for DT Asia;
- Conduct internal and external (third party) compliance monitoring activities, work with stakeholders to develop recommendations and report to key stakeholders on findings and progress;
- Provide subject matter guidance on legal and compliance as required, including the APACMed Code of Conduct;
- Undertake investigations into non-compliance and actioning improvements to the DT – Asia compliance framework;
- Develop and review compliance training and communications materials;
- Execute Healthcare Professional (HCP) and third party oversight activities (including due diligence);
- Participate in compliance and risk project work;
- Support with risk management activities;
- Support with WHS management activities;

Experience required:
- Bachelors degree in law;
- Experience in contract review, negotiation, administration and management of a variety of contracts, preferably in a law firm or in-house legal department;
- Strong understanding of contract law and legal terminology in the Asia region;
- Knowledge of corporate governance and company secretarial responsibilities;
- Highly skilled in interpreting legal documentation;
- Effective analytical, organisational and time management capabilities;
- Attention to detail;
- Excellent communication skills (written & oral);
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills;
- Very good computer skills; and
- Understanding of Device Technologies policies and procedures including any vaccination and background checks in line with this role and its responsibilities.
Desirable experience / qualification:
- Called to the bar in any of the commonwealth countries.
- 5 – 7 years legal experience, with a mix of law firm and in-house experience.
- Experience in compliance, with a focus on auditing.
- Regional experience in Asia.
- Experience in compiling tender responses in a medical field.
- Experience in dealing with relevant industry Regulators.
