The opportunity…
The Business Development Manager (Capital) leads end‑to‑end da Vinci capital sales by aligning clinical need, economic value, and executive priorities to secure new system placements. Success is defined by disciplined pipeline management, strong surgeon advocacy, effective tender shaping, and building scalable robotic programs beyond the initial sale.
Key responsibilities:
Drive Market Expansion & Capital Growth
- Expand the installed base of da Vinci Surgical Systems by identifying and developing capital sales opportunities across primary and new (greenfield) sites.
- Help build and maintain a robust sales pipeline and territory plan.
- Contribute to capital business case submissions with accurate case volume forecasts and critical market insights.
Grow System Utilization & Procedure Volume
- Increase utilization within existing (brownfield) da Vinci accounts through strategic engagement with hospital stakeholders.
- Partner with the Sales Manager and Product Specialists to ensure systems are fully operational post-installation and procedure growth targets are met.
Build Clinical Advocacy & Surgeon Engagement
- Identify and engage influential surgeons to champion da Vinci Surgery.
- Organize and execute market development activities such as clinical observations, international surgeon visits etc.
- Foster long-term relationships with key opinion leaders (KOLs) and hospital administrators.
Strategic and Operational Planning
- Support sales forecasting, budgeting, and performance tracking.
- Prepare regular reports including pipeline updates, revenues in pipeline, and sales reports.
- Collaborate with marketing and business leadership to align strategies and drive execution.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide timely market insights to Product Managers and Business Managers to support product positioning and marketing planning.
- Participate in business unit meetings and contribute to strategic discussions.
- Support execution of industry events, exhibitions, and clinical marketing activities.
Compliance & Systems
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of CRM entries, reporting, and administrative tasks in line with company policies and processes.

The ideal candidate is a senior medical device sales professional with proven experience in complex capital equipment sales, ideally within robotic surgery or advanced surgical technologies, and a strong track record of closing high‑value, multi‑stakeholder deals. They demonstrate credibility with surgeons, confidence engaging hospital executives and CFOs, and the ability to translate clinical value into compelling economic and strategic cases. Highly disciplined in pipeline and tender management, the candidate is comfortable navigating public and private healthcare systems, shaping TORs, and managing long sales cycles, while maintaining a partnership mindset focused on long‑term program adoption, utilization growth, and competitive differentiation rather than one‑off transactions.
Experience required:
- Solid experience in medical device sales with a strong focus on complex capital equipment involving long sales cycles and multi‑stakeholder decision making.
- Demonstrated success closing high‑value hospital deals is essential, including regular engagement with surgeons, hospital executives, procurement, and finance teams.
- Prior exposure to robotic surgery, advanced surgical platforms, imaging, or other high‑end capital technologies is strongly preferred, along with hands‑on experience managing tenders, shaping technical specifications (TOR), and navigating both public and private healthcare purchasing processes in emerging or Southeast Asian markets.
